Three limited-edition Tangente models from NOMOS Glashütte commemorate the 70th birthday of the German Constitution

GLASHÜTTE/BERLIN, OCTOBER 2018

Nearly three decades after the German reunification, the country’s highest law is poised to turn 70. What began as an interim agreement has evolved into a model for legal systems worldwide: the Grundgesetz (Basic Law) of the Federal Republic of Germany. Passed on May 8, 1949, the Grundgesetz was initially intended to govern the provisional West German state. Yet its contents have withstood the test of time, starting from the very first article: “Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar” (Human dignity is inviolable).

NOMOS Glashütte is also a firm believer in making things that last—and in the universal values of human rights and human dignity. As a tribute to Germany’s constitution and the principles it defends, the watchmaker collaborated with the German
publisher Nomos Verlag (nomos, not coincidentally, comes from the Greek and means “law” or “custom”). The result is a subtly enhanced version of an enduring classic:
NOMOS Tangente—available in three sizes, limited to 70 pieces each. The timepiece features the section symbol at six and the first article of the German Constitution engraved around the sapphire caseback, which reveals the hand-wound caliber Alpha, manufactured in house by NOMOS in Glashütte.

Those who are not able to find one of the 210 timepieces still have access to a precise and suitable alternative—because NOMOS watches have always done much more than tell time: NOMOS Glashütte has a long track record of taking a stand against intolerance and racism, as well as speaking up for democracy. And Nomos Verlag, the publisher, headquartered in Baden-Baden, has been a premier source of legal literature in Germany for decades.

The limited-edition watches will be available from November 9 at select German retailers (especially in university cities), at nomos-glashuette.com, and from Nomos Verlag at nomos-shop.de. The edition numbers one through ten will be available exclusively from Nomos Verlag.
