A white watch-dial, bright blue hands, sharp, superluminous hour markers that tell time in the dark, a completely novel bracelet made of 145 parts screwed together by hand, and most importantly just the right proportions: NOMOS Glashütte has won yet another award, this time for its newest model Tangente Sport. And not just any award. The jury of the renowned design prize Red Dot has selected the watch for its highest distinction: Best of the Best.

The watch's elegant proportions and beauty reveal themselves at first sight. And it withstands closer examination: Every detail is “coherent and well thought out,” explains Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the Red Dot Design Award. Customers can count on its “first-class quality.” The NOMOS Tangente Sport is now part of the exhibition “Milestones in Contemporary Design” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, which sees itself as a hotspot for top-notch industrial design.

NOMOS Tangente Sport, with date display, bracelet, and water-proof to 300 meters.

And who can take credit for it? The watch was designed by an in-house team at NOMOS, which took as its starting point the classic Tangente—one of the best well-known of German timepieces. The designers trimmed the watch scrupulously to proportions appropriate for sport—and then set it in motion. The Tangente model stands out favorably on the market for sports models. “Our watch simply looks different,” says NOMOS CEO Uwe Ahrendt. And thanks to reinforced and slightly domed sapphire crystal, special gaskets, and a body made of surgical steel, the watch is waterproof to 300 meters (1000 feet). “Its housing is like a vault,” promises the NOMOS boss. This vault protects the neomatik movement DUW 6101, the manufacturer's own self-winding caliber with a unique date display.

The award-winner reconciles all the elegance of Tangente with the demands of mobility. Elegant, automatic, and robust, as a watch handmade in Glashütte should be: this watch has it all.
